Research focus
- Early and differential diagnosis of neurodegenerative dementias (magnetic resonance imaging, functional connectivity, FDG positron emission tomography (PET), amyloid PET, CSF, blood biomarkers)
- Atypical Alzheimer's disease (posterior cortical atrophy, logopenic, progressive aphasia)
- Dementias of younger age (early onset Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia)
- Genetics of neurodegenerative dementias
- Risk factors of Alzheimer's disease (reserve capacity)
- Pharmacotherapy: Clinical drug trials (incl.a. active/passive amyloid immunization)
- Non-drug treatment (neurorehabilitation, use of technical aids, e.g. smartphones)
- Burden on relatives, support for relatives
- Palliative care for people with dementia

Central research topics
- Development of new biomarkers of neurodegenerative brain diseases (e.g. blood biomarkers)
- Maximization of the clinical benefit of the information provided by the biomarkers (e.g. optimized combination of CSF and imaging biomarkers)
- thereby: More meticulous, more effective and more patient-friendly clarification of the genesis of cognitive disorders
- Deciphering genetic factors that predispose to or protect against neurodegenerative diseases
