German Center for Mental Health

The German Center for Mental Health (DZPG)

Background: More than a third of all people in Germany suffer from a mental illness at some point in their lives. The causes of mental illness are not sufficiently understood and the effectiveness of known treatment methods is limited.

  • For this reason, the German Center for Mental Health (DZPG) was founded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in May 2023, following other centers for health research.
  • It is intended to bundle and promote long-term and practice-oriented cooperation between scientists from different disciplines.
  • The close networking and expansion of existing research structures should enable faster translation of scientific findings into practice.
  • The aim is to develop more effective prevention, diagnosis and treatment methods that are tailored to people's needs.

The main partners in the DZPG are the six locations

  • Berlin/Potsdam
  • Bochum/Marburg
  • Halle/Jena/Magdeburg
  • Mannheim/Heidelberg/Ulm
